The trip of Class 7a to the Wilhelma on 25 November 2025 – in the perspective of a pygmy marmoset

Hi, it's me, the pygmy marmoset, a small but cool monkey from the tropical rainforest house in the Wilhelma. On a rainy day in November, a group of students came to visit me and the Amazonian House. At the beginning of their tour, they looked at a huge map outside while their guide explained where the rainforest is located. Meanwhile, I sat there wondering why they didn’t already know where the rainforest is?

Then they walked into my fantastic home: the Amazonian House. And let me tell you: this is not the real rainforest. There's no emergent layer here, no canopy layer. It's basically just the understorey and the ground layer, and no rain. The guide started talking about plants and how they try to get light down here. Some plants are stretching and climbing, trying to grow.

After that, the animal part began, and finally something really interesting happened. First they saw the sloth, who was moving at a very slow speed. The students found the sloth very cute, but I just thought that he has not moved since 2004.

Then they discovered the howler monkeys, that are screaming just for fun. They all looked shocked because they did not expect so much noise. But honestly, what did they expect – they are howler monkeys.

The next animal was the poison dart frog, a tiny but the most poisonous frog in the world. After that, they spotted the next big attraction: the green anaconda. It must have been a male, because it was only 3 meters long. The students even touched the shed skin.

Finally, it was time for my entrance: I climbed above their heads like the a star, as if I were famous.
After my performance, the group saw more animals, for example a toucan, turtles, other monkeys (of course they were as cool as me) and birds.

At the end, the guide brought them cacao beans, roasted nibs, and bitter chocolate. Then they talked about saving the rainforest, which is a very important topic to save all the animals and the people who live there.

Anyway, thank you for visiting my beautiful home, the Amazonian House.
Next time bring bananas.

Tagebucheintrag eines Affens von Minea Joskic

Dear diary,
Today was a nice day.
In the morning I was woken up by the sunlight and the zoo workers bringing us food. I jumped from branch to branch and took care of my small ones. During the day I saw some visitors, some were really calm but when I saw that a class was coming to visit, I got kind of scared. They took pictures of me and my family and looked at us with big eyes. I was curious but scared at the same time. After some minutes they left and went to look at my other friends that I share my home with, like the frogs and snakes, alligators or fish. The children were fascinated by the plants and their water strategies, and how some get really tall. I hope they have learned how important the rainforest is especially for the climate and biodiversity.
And that was my day.

Good night,
Billy, the monkey
